I moved to Texas from my home state, Kentucky, in 2013. I’m fairly certain I’d never eaten brisket or Frito pie, and I definitely didn’t know how to two-step.
Shortly after settling in, I began writing for Texas Heritage for Living, Texas Farm Bureau Insurance’s magazine, which wound up being a crash course in all things Texas. The longer I write for THFL, the more I understand why Texans have what I used to find an alarming amount of state pride. It’s because it’s true: Texas is badass.
